What Direct to Film printing does
DTF is a transfer-based garment printing process. Colour and white ink are printed onto specialist film, an adhesive layer is applied and cured, and the prepared design is transferred to suitable clothing with a heat press. The white layer helps artwork show on dark garments.
It can be useful for multicolour logos, illustrations and graphics that include shading. It is different from stitching and from dye sublimation. The design sits as a transfer on the fabric, so print size and coverage affect how the decorated area feels.

Match the transfer to the garment
Cotton, polyester and blends can be suitable, but the exact fabric, finish and garment colour still need assessing. Heat-sensitive materials, coatings and dye behaviour can affect the choice of transfer or application. There is no useful guarantee that every item described as polyester will behave identically.
Send the brand and product code if you have already chosen the clothing. If supplying garments, contact us before purchasing or bringing them in. Specialist workwear and protective garments require particular attention to decoration suitability and the proposed position.

Prepare artwork for a clear result
Provide a vector file where available, or a high-resolution PNG at the intended size. Tell us whether a background should remain visible. A transparent background and a white background produce different shapes, so that choice should be explicit.
Very thin lines and tiny text still have practical limits. We assess what will reproduce usefully at the finished dimensions rather than promising that every detail visible on a large screen will survive a small chest print. Include the desired width or approximate placement with the artwork.

When to compare DTF with embroidery
DTF can give more scope for colour gradients and larger graphics on suitable garments. Embroidery offers a stitched texture and can suit compact logos on appropriate polos, fleeces and jackets. A mixed uniform can use both methods without forcing every item into the same process.
The quotation considers the garment, quantity, artwork, size and positions, plus any preparation, VAT and delivery where applicable. Follow the garment care label and print guidance supplied for the actual item. Avoid assuming that care instructions for an undecorated garment cover every transfer application.

Your questions, answered
Can DTF print white onto dark clothing?
DTF uses a white ink layer and can suit compatible dark garments. We check the exact fabric and design before confirming the finish.
Can DTF reproduce photographs or gradients?
It can be useful for detailed full-colour artwork where the source image, final size and garment are suitable. Send the original file for assessment.
Does DTF work on every fabric?
No blanket claim applies. Heat sensitivity, coatings and dye behaviour mean the exact garment needs checking.
