The news

The ONS August trade bulletin, released on 15 October 2026, reports a 3.1% monthly fall in goods export value, excluding precious metals, at current prices. After removing inflation, goods exports fell 2.8%. These are different measures of the same month, not competing estimates.

In its response dated 15 October, the British Chambers of Commerce said July’s improvement had not lasted and called for better export support. Those calls are advocacy, not newly implemented support or a guarantee of demand. The national results do not predict an individual seller’s next order.

Calculate the order that actually reaches the customer

Start with one product, one destination and one delivery option. Put the selling price beside product cost, packing time, packaging, payment charges, carriage and the cost of dealing with a plausible return. Identify which taxes, duties or clearance arrangements need checking with the relevant authorities or a competent adviser for that specific transaction. Do not copy an old assumption from another market.

Agree who does what before quoting. The customer should be able to understand the delivery terms, expected dispatch process and route for resolving a problem. A headline price that excludes a cost nobody has agreed to pay can create an argument rather than a profitable sale. Keep the quotation version and the customer’s acceptance together.

Test the process before enlarging the campaign

Use a small, bounded trial with a clear maximum commitment. Record enquiries, accepted quotations, completed deliveries and actual contribution after costs. Include the staff time spent answering questions or correcting paperwork. An enquiry from abroad is useful evidence of interest, but it is not yet revenue or a reason to expand stock across many destinations.

After the trial, compare the estimate with what happened. Was the package the right size? Did the address and contact details reach the carrier correctly? Could the customer find tracking information? Fix one recurring failure before increasing promotional spend. This turns a general trade headline into a practical check on the parts of the operation you can control.

Keep branded products and print consistent

For decorated clothing, a clear specification should travel with the order: garment reference, colour, size breakdown, decoration method and approved artwork version. A repeat customer should not have to rediscover those decisions. Ask about current options and lead times directly; this article makes no claim about available stock, overseas shipping services or guaranteed delivery dates.

Printed inserts can explain care, contact and reorder steps, but they should match the actual service being provided. Flintshire Printing is a useful contact for discussing those materials, while Sandycroft Workwear can discuss branded garments and decoration. Order modest quantities until the process is stable. The objective is a reliable, measurable sale—not extra packaging or promotional items with no defined job.
